Actress, businesswoman and mother of five Teresa Palmer, describes her style as “boho chic, with a little elevated hippy.”
She can most often be found in “floaty gorgeous dresses”, comfortable jumpsuits and boots.
Photographed with her family in the Adelaide Hills for a Sunday Life Mother's Day cover story, Palmer modeled a number of Autumn / Winter looks, all styled with R.M.Williams boots - the popular Maya and Millicent - as well as seasonal favourites the Victoria (cowboy boot) and Lady Yearling in a seasonal quartz colourway.
Each boot has its own design sensibility, the Maya with its narrow toe and 7.5cm block heel is elevated and sophisticated, while the Millicent, with a Cuban heel and pointed toe, adds a little bit of edge.
“I love the idea of pairing them with one of my long flowing dresses, a hat and that divine Thornton Coat, it’s such an iconic look,” says Palmer of the boots, which both work as well with a dress as they do tailored trousers and a knit.
As for Palmer’s own style icons? A mix of fellow Australians and internationally recognised women who, like Palmer, have plenty on the go.
“I love Lara Worthingtons street style, it’s so gorgeous and effortlessly on point. Emma Stone, Diane Kruger and Dakota Johnson are always knockouts on the red carpet circuit too,” she says.
Palmer says motherhood has definitely changed the way she thinks about getting dressed — ease, versatility and feeling like herself are essential.
“I’m definitely into things that aren’t fussy, I love a loose blouse that makes nursing out and about easy. I’ve been loving wearing cute patterned bikini/bra blends under my clothes and a big scrunchy in my hair. I’m so time poor having five kids, a business and working in the film/TV world, that fashion for me means finding what look is going to be the cutest, quickest and simplest to put on,” she says.
Below, see how Palmer wears her boots—proof too that a pair of boots will stand you in very good stead, no matter what you pair them with.
Short cuts
The mini-skirt has been trending on the runway for several seasons and it makes so much sense - a mini is fun and fresh and the proportion of it works with everything from sandals to boots. A little elevation from a Cuban heel helps elongate the leg. And a cosy knit or jacket means it can work for the cooler months too.
Dreamy yet practical
There is something so compelling about a romantic puff sleeve blouse or crisp white dress, paired with boots. Boots anchor the dreaminess and add practicality without impeding the elegance.
A great coat
The Thornton coat, also from R.M.Williams, is a favourite of Palmer’s and it’s easy to see why. A shearling coat isn’t just incredibly warm but it’s a timeless style that can be worn with a throw-it-on-and-go knit dress and boots - either ankle boots or longer Western-style, or jeans and a ribbed knit. It’s one to turn to every year.
Workwear ready
Relaxed tailored trousers and a blouse or slouchy knit is a failsafe outfit formula. Paired with the Maya or Millicent boot, or the seasonal Lady Yearling in soft quartz, it works as well for the office as it does play (and well beyond). Keep the hues tonal for an easy to add polish.
