Elastic sides have been the hallmark of R.M.Williams boots since they were first handcrafted for stockmen and drovers in the 1930s, but nowadays in the boot room, you’ll also find high top boots, lace-up boots…and the zip-up Balmoral.
An archival style, re-imagined in 2021, the Balmoral has the same purposeful design as its stablemates, with a unique side zip opening for broad appeal.
says R.M.Williams’ Head of Footwear Development, David Cook.
This distinctive design feature makes the Balmoral an entry point for many who seek the signature R.M.Williams quality, but haven’t been able to wear pull ups. A stylish alternative, the fully-concealed side zip has been stitched on the inside of the boot for a sleeker profile. The zip pull also tucks inside for the ultimate clean finish, while the distinctive twin tugs - traditionally used to get the boot on and off the foot - have been replaced by a single, branded tug.
With its wide round toe and beveled edge detail, flat heel and leather sole, the Balmoral is both a flexible and elegant side-step away from the traditional elastic-sided boot. Originally modeled on a low-cut boot from the archives, the Balmoral has been redefined with added height through the shaft so that it finishes above the ankle like the best-selling Craftsman boot.
“The Balmoral has a similar silhouette to the Craftsman, but the fact that there are no side elastics hugging the ankle makes it slightly roomier,” David explains. “From a style point of view, the all-leather finish also lends itself to a more sophisticated, dressier boot, so the Balmoral certainly works well with more formal wear.”
Crafted skillfully by artisans at our Adelaide workshop, each boot is patiently worked and reworked by hand to bring out the rich tones of the leather and a bespoke two-tone patina, only set to gain more character with each new adventure,.
Whether you’re stepping out in a slick suit or hitting the road on an outback trek, the Balmoral is the boot to join you.
